May 21 - Adult CPR Training

Provide yourself and your employees with the skills needed to recognize and provide basic care on the jobsite until advanced medical help can take over. Participants will learn how to recognize and handle an emergency, how to check the scene for safety and the victim for consciousness, when and how to move a victim from a dangerous scene, when to call and how to interact with the emergency medical services (EMS) system, why and how to apply basic precautions to reduce the risk of disease transmission during and after providing care, how to prioritize care for life-threatening injuries or sudden illness, how to check a conscious victim for life and non-life threatening conditions, how to recognize the signals of a heart attack and how to give care, how to care for a victim who is having a breathing emergency, and how to give CPR to an adult. Participants will receive a certificate valid for one year, American Red Cross CPR Program participant's booklet, American Red Cross CPR skills card, and pocket mask. Training is provided through the American Red Cross.

June 3 - Residential Deck Design, Construction, & Inspection


Do you find deck codes to be vague? At this course presented by the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center (PHRC) you will learn common deck failures, IRC deck requirements, solutions outside the IRC, and receive practical examples. This program will provide an overview of IRC code requirement for residential decks and a detailed review of the use of commonly used connectors, fasteners, and some commonly used proprietary products. The afternoon will focus on hands on examples including designing a simple residential deck, performing a detailed review deck plan to check for code compliance and a virtual inspection of a residential deck.

Who should attend: builders, remodelers, deck contractors, building officials (plan reviewers and inspectors), design professionals, home inspectors, and suppliers of deck related construction materials

June's membership event will be a member AND family picnic at Green Valley Swimming Pool. Bring your spouse, kids, grandkids, friends, clients, and enjoy a fun evening filled with lots of activities.

The YCBA is devoted to keeping members informed and current regarding changes to the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). Since the adoption of a state-wide building code, the way homes are designed, built, and inspected has radically changed. The UCC Coalition was formed to keep an open line of communication between our builder members and municipal officials.

The Coalition will be doing a Lunch n’ Learn on Truss’s with Ken from KW Engineering. Ken will be discussion key issues on truss bracing, sheer walls, and truss erection. Do you have other questions on trusses? There will be a question and answer session to address your questions on trusses.

The YCBA is devoted to keeping members informed and current regarding changes to the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). Since the adoption of a state-wide building code, the way homes are designed, built, and inspected has radically changed. The UCC Coalition was formed to keep an open line of communication between our builder members and municipal officials.

The Coalition will be a presentation on Green Building. The session will begin defining the term "green" and providing a brief explanation and comparision of the major green building programs available to builders and remodelers in PA. Green building concepts, techniques and materials will then be introduced.
